The Power of the Pumpkin Seed

Fall is finally here! Some of our favorite fall flavors are pumpkin, hazelnut, apple, and cranberry. As it happens, our Cranberry + Walnut Snacks contain pumpkin seeds, an ingredient that is not just seasonal but nutritionally dense, as well.

The little green seeds inside your Jack-o-lantern, called pepitas are a powerhouse of health.

100 grams of pumpkin seeds contains 20 percent of your daily source of protein, dietary fiber, niacin, iron, zinc, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorus. Pumpkin seeds are also a great source of riboflavin, phytosterol, folate, pantothenic acid, sodium, and potassium.

Magnesium relaxes nerves and muscles and improves circulation. (It can also mean better sleep!) Protein and fiber, already in abundance in our Snacks, fills you up and provides energy without weighing you down. Phytosterol lowers your LDL cholesterol (we’re only interested in the good cholesterol at Sustainable Snacks HQ), improves immunity, and lowers the risk of certain cancers (stomach, breast, lung, prostate, and colon).

Zinc, magnesium, and healthy fats in pumpkin seeds mean a healthier heart, too! The oil in the seeds contain anti-inflammatory properties, which are good for those with arthritis or seeking better circulation.

Finally, pumpkin seeds contain L-tryptophan, a known mood booster! A happy you is a healthy you.

That’s a lot of value from a little seed!
